It took a while for the season to come, but when it did, The Falcons soared to start the season 7-0. At The Falcon Duals on Friday night, the team battled for the right to claim the Sledgehammer against the other Southwest Broward schools
Everglades and West Broward. Although they put up a battle, the "Green Machine" was too much to handle and raised the hammer in victory. In the Finals Saturday Morning, The Falcon Men showed their pride and determination by beating McArthur 42-39. With outstanding efforts from the newbies Kenny McIntyre and Chris Martel, and second year wrestler Justin "Moby" Smith, the team fought off a valliant effort from the Mustangs. The team then finished off its perfect weekend by beating Taravella, Northeast, and Miramar. The Falcons were led by Richard Englar (10-1), Kevin "Pudding" Williams (10-1), and Dakota Concepcion (10-2) who went undefeated. Nick Cunningham, having a stomach flu, also went undefeated at 6-0 for his best career start (7-2). The next matches will be in January when school is back in session. So it will be practice during the break every Monday through Wednesday 8am -12 pm. 7-0 is great, and claiming our first trophy is nice, but we are far from our goals! Hard work will be answer to all success. The high school season has started. The schedule is on the calendar with times and practices as well. The only thing that I have to say to my men is, "Be prepared!!!" The high school season is officially underway and the team looks to improve on a 14-15 record from last year. With The return of at least 7 wrestlers from last years team, and the infusion of some young talent, the team looks ready to take its first District Title in six years. As for every year, Coach Schilling has set goals for the team. These goals are: 1) Win the District Title (last 2003) 2) Place in the top 5 at BCAA with at least 2 Individual Champions and 2 finalists 3)Place in the top 7 at Dade Regionals (second in '99 and '03 Broward) with 2 Champs and 2 placers 4) Finish in the top 10 at States and have 1 State Champion(Both have never happened) and 1 placer. 5)Bring Home at least 2 trophies this year! Coach Schilling knows that these goals are high, but with hard work and a little luck, they are obtainable. HIGH SCHOOL SEASON BEGINS Every year since Coach Schiiling has arrived, the team has improved. 4 wins year one, 6 wins year two, 14 wins in year three, and with this year he hopes to improve again. The weigh-ins have been cut to save money, so the amount of matches the men get will also be reduced. Coach is trying his best to make sure the men are ready, but he knows that his 100% needs to be matched by each individuals 100% in order for success to happen. It is kind of like marriage LOL!!! Whatever the season holds in store for the team, Coach Schilling knows these things to be true: First, He loves his wrestling family! Secondly, His parents are the best around, and without their support, things would be a lot more difficult. He Thanks Everyone Who Cares Enough To Help. Summer Camp Comes and Goes!!! The Falcon Wrestlers hit the midwest this summer for fun and wrestling. The guys flew up to Minnesota where they worked out with one of the best, if not the best, high schools in the country, Apple Valley. Coach Jackson and McCaully were very gracious with their time, knowlege and facilities. The guys really got a lot from their time at AVHS. For fun, the team went to the USA's largest mall and indoor waterpark. They also spent the day at Lake Marion Beach, and then went to Wisconsin to tube down the Apple River. At the Apple River, they met some very nice people. Sophie and Trellany were the two young ladies that worked at the park and helped us out with our gear and stuff. They were very professional and kind ladies, and the guys were very thankful for their help. The guys also met some nice people on the river including four ladies that tolerated their flirting with smiles and laughter. I smile just thinking about our time on the river. The team also visited the twin cities including the University of Minnesota. After spending 5 days in Minnesota, the team traveled to Nebraska for camp. At the University of Nebraska, the team worked out and wrestled against guys from 10 different states: Kansas, South Dakota, Nebraska, Missouri, Texas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Ohio, Iowa and Minnesota. Richard, Zach, and Nick even wrestled against guys from Hawaii. They even learned from some of the best wrestlers and coaches in the country including NCAA All-Americans and National Champions. The guys seemed to get a lot out of the camp including making new friends. The Florida Boys were teamed up with a team from Legend Colorado. After the second match, the 2 teams were one as the Florida Boys corrupted the Legends with slap tag, pushing people over each other, free bees, and stuff coach will probably never find out about. But, the one thing that made them a team, was the friendships that were developed on both sides. Thanks to the Legend coaches Chris and Ed for teaching and looking out for the guys. Legend Colorado has made a friend with West Broward Falcons. In the 10 days the team was gone, they wrestled some of the best wrestlers in the nation including a National Champion. They visited 5 states, wrestled 11 different states, and still fit in fun. Between coaches Schilling and Seow, an estimated one thousand pictures were taken. With all that was done this year, add in wrestling Georgia, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina as wrestling opponents and they have now wrestled 15 states in two years. They have also white water rafted and visited amusement parks. They have seen the mountains and the praries, and so much more. Nothing like family vacations!!! |
