Team has Strong BCAA; 10-0
In the 4 years that Coach Schilling and the coaching staff have been at Flanagan, The goal has been to be the best. Those lofty expectations have propelled the Falcon Men to improve year after year. For the first time since taking over the program, the team took a big step forward as they finished 7th in the BCAA tournament. Led by Kevin "Pudding" Williams (1st), Richard Englar (2nd),Justin "Moby" Smith (5th), Dakota Concepcion (7th), and Brad Werne (8th), the team put themselves on the Broward County map. Other coaches have taken notice as well, and the once easy victory has become a point of concern for the Falcon Opponents. The Falcon team has also improved to 10-0 as they Defeated Hallandale 69-6 and Piper 70-6 in a tri-meet at Flanagan. In a dual at 1-A powerhouse Monsignor Pace, the newbies proved to be a force as the Falcons beat Pace 35-35 on criteria. With Pins by Marcus Gutierrez, Sebatian Grisales, Moby Smith, and Brad Werne, the team won with more pins. Ironically, the most important match was when Miguel Prada refused to get pinned and lost 15-0. By not getting pinned, he saved the team a point, and that ended up being the difference. Great job! |

Englar and Williams Place at Barron Collier
Richard Englar and Kevin Williams are not only the team leaders at practice, but they lead with their actions on the mat. This past weekend was no exception as Kevin Pudding Williams took second and Richard took third at the 32 team Barron Collier Tournament in Naples. On his way to second place, Williams beat 3 state ranked kids including the 3rd ranked kid in the state in the semifinals. Englar, showing perseverence, came back through the consolations to beat South Dade for third. A referee's questionable judgement call in the semifinals sent Richard into the consolation bracket. Having to wrestle three times in two hours showed why he is one of the best in the state. The team finished 15th in the tournament and was the second highest broward team with the help of wrestlers like Brad Werne who was one match away from placing. The team this previous week extended their winning streak to 9 as the undefeated Falcons beat Piper and Hallandale handily. The Falcons were led by the newbies who didn't lose a match in either competition. The Falcons are 9-0 and have won 12 out of the last 13 matches dating back to last season. The BCAA tournament is next up for the team as they will face every public high school in the county as well as some private schools. Good luck to the team. |
